I find it is in your best interest to really do your research and get the correct one for your kitchen. Do not hurry thru decision making, you will have a countertop for a long time.

Food preparation-The primary function of a kitchen countertop is for food preparation. Hence, it needs to be durable, scratch-resistant, stain-proof, and heat-resistant. There are a wide variety of options available when it comes to choosing a material for the kitchen countertop. There are many types of materials that counter tops are made of. We are going to talk about a few.

1.Granite-Granite is a naturally occurring rock which has proved to be very reliable durable for making various types of granite counter tops especially in the kitchen. It contains minerals such as mica, quartz, feldspar plus other minerals which gives it an extraordinary look and for making various types of granite counter tops.

2.Quartz is a hard, crystalline mineral composed of silica. Quartz is the second most abundant mineralin Earth’s continental crust, behind feldspar.

3.Porcelain-Porcelain Counter tops. Porcelain is a ceramic product created by heating materials, its also a type of natural stone which can be used as a kitchen or bathroom countertop.

4.Vinyl-This vinyl sheet is really a vinyl laminate that is attached to the surface of the counter with some adhesive. These vinyl sheets are available in a wide variety of colors and textures.

5.Laminate-Laminate counter tops are a sandwich of materials. The structural part is a thick slab of particleboard, which you never see because it is covered with a thin sheet of laminate. Laminate is often referred to as “plastic,” but it is fact made primarily of layers of kraft paper and synthetic resins.

Popular countertop materials such as granite, quartz and concrete counters cost $55-90 per square foot. However, depending on material quality and style countertop prices can be as low as $20 per square foot and as high as $225 per square foot.

Having done some research of different counter tops I’m still deciding which one to choose from. Go to different stores, pick of samples if available so you can see what it may look like in your kitchen. Also, there is a lot of information on the internet. Final word-Take your time in choosing.
